v8. If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there.
v9. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
v10. Even there shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.
v11. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,” even the night shall be light about me.
v12. Yea, the darkness hideth not from Thee, but the night shineth as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to Thee.
Here, the focused is on God’s omniscience. It describes His omnipresence, i.e. His ability to be everywhere at once.
David mentions some of the places he might go, thinking God isn’t there, only to discover that God is present. The knowledge of God’s presence comforted David. He knew God would be with him everywhere he went.
The presence of God everywhere made David to say, “Even the night shall be light about me.” God’s presence with David was like a constant light in the darkness. Just like the pillar of cloud Covered the Israelites in the wilderness as seen in Exodus 13:21, so with God’s presence the night shines as the day.
As Children of God, darkness may indeed conceal us from the sight of men, but the divine presence of God in our lives, turns night into day, and makes all things manifest.
A Christian need not fear for he says “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). This is an assurance that no matter where you are, God is there with you. God went further in Isaiah and said:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.
Joshua also confirmed the ever-present God, when he said:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Either a believer is at home or on a journey God will always be present. He is not the God that sleeps or slumber, neither is He a static God. He told Jacob that:
Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Genesis 28:15
Jesus Christ communicated the same thing to His disciples’ right before He ascended back into heaven after being resurrected. He said, “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).
Follower of Jesus, if you are grieve in anyway, be encouraged that you are only passing through a shadow and God’s presence is with you, as the promise of His presence was not only for the disciples of old. God knows your name.
The Holy Spirit is present with you in all conditions and situations, i.e. in your secret pains, the hardest relationships, and in all situations.
Either in Joy or in Pain, God is ever present.
