The Strength card was originally known as the Fortitude and was called Lust in the Thoth Tarot deck. Being a Major Arcana Tarot card, it is numbered with XI or VII, based on the deck it is in, and is also used in divination and game playing as well. The strength card accompanies the other two cardinal virtues in the Major Arcana Tarot, which are Temperance and Justice. The Strength Tarot card is present by a woman stroking a lion, gently on its forehead and jaw. The woman is believed to be representing spiritual powers while the lion represents passion and earthly cravings. The lion is a wild and ferocious animal, the woman has tamed this beast with her calm and gentle energy. Being the representation of earthly cravings, animal instinct, and passion, in taming the lion, the woman has shown how earthly craving and raw passion can be expressed and projected in positive ways when inner strength is applied. By not applying force, she goes on to show how necessary and important is the need for inner strength.
The woman adorns a white robe which is a symbol of the purity of her spirit, along with the crown made of flowers and the belt, go on further to symbolize nature. The symbol of infinity above her head represents wisdom and potential. The older decks had two different symbolisms, where one had a woman either holding or breaking the stone pillar, and the other symbolism had an individual taming the lion.
General interpretation and meaning of the Upright Strength
During your Tarot reading, if you get the strength card in an upright manner, it shows that you are an individual who has inner strength and the ability to remain calm and compassionate during moments of distress and even danger. In the Major Arcana, the Strength card represents inner strength and advocates the mastering of raw passions and emotions to calm yourself and gain control of the situation and in this aspect, is very similar to the Chariot card as it symbolizes overcoming obstacles and challenges that come in your way. When it comes to the strength card, the card usually is referred to the inner challenges that we face and how we overcome these obstacles while we are faced with self-doubt and anxiety.
Utilize the time you have in mastering your emotions and being patient with yourself because this will help you gain confidence in your abilities, skills, and yourself. The inner strength can be a symbol of how you tame your emotions and passions, but it can also symbolize the taming of someone else’s emotions or wild ways. This does not involve the domination of the other person through violent methods or manipulation, but through gentle encouragement, coaxing and positive reinforcement.
Love & Relationships (Upright)
During a love Tarot reading, if you drew a strength card, you have found yourself in a very passionate romance and you would be experiencing intense emotions that make you feel that this could be a stable and strong relationship. But there are also chances that this could have anger, emotional explosions involved. The Strength tarot card represents compassion, inner strength, confidence, and a caring relationship, and you may find out that these qualities will help you attract the partners you need in your life or even help you get closer to your partner.
Money & Career Interpretation (Upright)
When it comes to a career Tarot reading, and if you get the upright Strength card, it indicates that while you have the skills that you need, the drive, and the potential, all that is lacking is that you need to believe in yourself and your abilities to reach your potential. You need to showcase your abilities and make yourself known, and avoid all those impulsive shopping decisions, especially when it comes to spending.
Health Interpretation (Upright)
During your health Tarot reading, the upright Strength Tarot card is one of the best cards to get. The upright strength card usually indicates that you have great health and make sure that you are fit. Now would be a great time to make positive changes to your lifestyle and develop self-control.
Spiritual Interpretation (Upright)
When it comes to your spiritual Tarot reading, the upright Strength card represents a connection with your higher self. This growing connection between your higher being and you indicate that you have more inner strength than you think you do and this energy will help you cultivate harmony into your life which will help in balancing your mind, spirit, and body. If you are going through a rough patch in your life, this upright Strength card acts as a reminder that you have the resilience and the inner strength to overcome this.
General Interpretation and Meaning of the Reversed Strength
During your Tarot reading, if you end up drawing a reversed Strength card, it only means that you are not tapping into the inner strength that you possess and all of that potential that is in you. A reversed strength card also indicated that you are about to experience anger or feelings of fear in your life and you may have forgotten your passions and the joy of fulfillment that came with following your passions. The card also symbolizes that you may be experiencing feelings of depression and may end up feeling withdrawn from family and friends. You need to tap into the inner strength that you possess to achieve your potential. Allowing fear, self-doubt, and anxiety to conquer you, just enables you to not achieve your goals and get over the obstacles that come in your path. Stay away from people who make you doubt yourself.
Love & Relationships (Reversed)
In your love Tarot reading, when your Major Arcana Strength card is drawn reversed, that means that there are chances that your relationship has few forms of insecurity and co-dependency in it. Moreover, it is also stopping your partner and you from being two different individuals and preventing the both of you from being independent and looking after your interests. A reversed strength Tarot card is also a strong indicator that your partner who used to be understanding and caring is now more domineering and no longer cares for you as they once did. You need to make sure that you are not losing yourself in this relationship and you need to cultivate inner strength to draw healthy boundaries in the relationship.
Money & Career Interpretation (Reversed)
During your career Tarot reading, if you draw a reversed Strength Tarot card, it simply means that you need to believe in yourself and your abilities rather than allow self-doubt and fear to hold you back. This major arcana card is one of the best indicators of how you have been allowing fear and doubt to get to you, and how they are holding you back from achieving your true potential. Moreover, the fear of failure is stopping you from achieving inner strength that will help you believe in yourself and gain confidence in yourself. You need to also stop making impulsive financial decisions because just because you have money now, there is the chance that you will not always have money with you. You need to start saving money and making smart choices, especially when it comes to your financial expenses.
Health Interpretation (Reversed)
During your health Tarot reading, the reversed strength card is well, still an indicator that you have good health and you still take care of your health. But there are chances that you have no self-control at all and this could in the long run lead to the creation of bad habits which would affect your health and cause major health problems, and put you at the risk of various diseases. Cultivate self-control and reconnect with your willpower and your inner strength to prevent and tackle your habits so that you are not harming yourself in the long run and try not to do everything all at a time. You need to start with baby steps because it is these tiny steps that will help in making a bigger and more positive change in the long run.
Spiritual Interpretation (Reversed)
When it comes to your spiritual Tarot reading, and you drew a reversed Strength card, the Major Arcana card indicates that you have a very strong connection with your higher self but your anxieties and emotional worries have been stopping you from understanding and realizing this connection. You need to let go of self-doubt and start trusting yourself and your abilities to reap the benefits and to understand yourself better. You can only understand and maintain the connection with yourself if you tap into your potential and realize that the inner strength that you possess would help you achieve what you are searching for in life.
